After Treatment Care

After treatment care is highly recommended with the Silk'n. In keeping with professional clinical protocols, The Silk'n Store Canada recommends Skinceuticals UV Defence SPF 30 with every new Silk'n purchase. It is recommended that this sophisticated moisturizing broad spectrum sunscreen be used after every treatment when any sun exposure is a possibility. It should also be used between treatments to insure complete protection from the sun while undergoing a treatment regimen.

For those with sensitive skin, Skinceuticals Epidermal repair quickly reduces any redness or irritation from IPL treatments.

Power Levels

It is important to understand that power levels of the Silk'n are stated in j/cm2, or jules per square centimeter. It is industry standard to state power levels of IPL machines in this way. However, some company state their power levels energy density or simply as "jules". In this case the Silk'n would be stated as having a maximum power level of 30 jules, as the size of the treatment area is 6j/cm2: 5j/cm2 X 6cm2 = 30jules.

Skin Cooling Tip

IPL technology is known for it's painless application, however some people do find the higher power levels of the Silk'n to be intense. And although cooling gel is not required, some people may find it helpful to cool their skin. This can be easily acheived by moistening a wash cloth with cold water, wringing out the excess, and laying the cloth on the treatment area for a few seconds prior to treatment. Our trials have shown this to be a very effective way to reduce or eliminate any sensation during treatments.

Face hair removal

The Silk’n device has been designed for body treatments with the most common areas being the legs, underarms, arms and bikini line. Silk’ncan be used for the treatment of facial hair from the cheek line downwards. Extra caution should be used when treating areas on the face to avoid the eyes and avoid pulsing on red/pink lip line. And as with other parts of the body, care should be taken to avoid sun exposure before and after treatments with Silk’n. Acceptable means of sun protection are covering garments or sunscreen (SPF higher than 30) used continuously for 3 weeks before and after treatment.
